Legal Aid

The OBA submission to the Legal Aid Review, lead by University of Toronto Professor Michael
Trebilcock, focused on ways to address systemic and recurring problems faced by Legal Aid Ontario.

The OBA’s Submission was spearheaded by 2005-2006 OBA President Heather McGee, who now chairs the OBA’s Access to Justice Committee.

In the Fall of 2007 the OBA’s Legal Aid Review Working Group provided their submission to Professor Trebilcock, which outlined why reform of the legal aid system is needed and identified five areas of the legal aid system that require review.

These areas include:

Funding

Tariff Reform

Administration

Clinics and Specialty Clinics

Big Case Management

The OBA has met with Professor Trebilcock on two occasions since making this submission to discuss our priorities as well as offer advice on recommendations that he is considering.
