Advocacy on Your Behalf

As the voice of the legal profession, the Ontario Bar Association (OBA) advocates on behalf of approximately 17,000 lawyers, judges, law professors and law students. One of the key advantages of belonging to the OBA is representation on issues that affect the justice system and the practice of law. As a member of the legal profession, it's important that your interests and those of your colleagues be protected in matters involving the provincial and federal governments. You also have the opportunity to participate in a meaningful way in the public policy process, specifically as it pertains to law reform.

The Advocacy, Government Relations and Communications Department is an excellent source for the latest political news and for ensuring the views of the OBA membership are heard at Queen's Park and in the media. The OBA has a proven track record of effectively voicing the concerns of Ontario's lawyers and the public in various forums at the provincial, national and international levels.

The association's Advocacy, Government Relations and Communications Committee and staff are well equipped to respond quickly to emerging issues affecting the legal profession. The OBA also takes a pro-active role in defending the public interest whenever changes in public policy might infringe on individual rights and freedoms.
