Law Day’s week-long celebration runs from Monday, April 14th to Friday, April 18th, 2008

Law Day 2008

- marks the 26th anniversary of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Come be part of the largest Law Day events in Canada. Celebrate with us!

Law Day
is a national event celebrating the signing of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Originated by the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) and first held in Canada in 1983, Law Day is aimed at educating and informing the public about the role and importance of the law. Since many people have a limited knowledge about the law and how the legal system works, Law Day empowers the public at large. It provides an excellent opportunity for the profession to educate the public about the vital role that lawyers and the judiciary serve in guaranteeing an open, independent and unbiased judicial system.

In Ontario, Law Day is a collaborative project organized through the partnership of the Ontario Bar Association (OBA), the Ontario Justice Education Network (OJEN), the Law Society of Upper Canada as well as the Association of French Speaking Jurists of Ontario (AJEFO).

Law Day is made possible due to the financial contributions of the Law Day partners and generous funding by, ALERT (Advancement Of Legal Education And Research Trust) and the Law Foundation of Ontario.

Law Day is celebrated annually in April and will be held this year on Thursday, April 17, 2008 with its Week-Long Celebrations taking place from Monday, April 14th, 2008 to Friday, April 18th, 2008. Activities celebrating the law range from the Opening Ceremonies to  the Grade 5 Poster Contest, the Charter & You, the Photography Contest, the Elementary School Mock Trial competition, the Secondary School Mock Trial competition, The Charter Challenge as well as organized Court Tours, Special Citizenship Court and Phone-A-Lawyer programs.
