Executive Positions

The Section Executive duties generally designated to each position are:

Chair

Calls and chairs Executive meetings, liaises with committees and ensures that the Executive fulfils its responsibilities to the Section membership of OBA and Section Executive. The Chair is also a member of OBA Council.

Past Chair

Provides support to the Chair and Executive and addresses critical issues as needed.

Vice Chair

Responsible for strategic objectives of the Section, assists the Chair and presides over the Executive in his/her absence.

Secretary

Records minutes of Executive meetings and forwards them to the OBA office so they may be distributed to the other Executive members for reference and for archival purposes.

Newsletter Editor

Acts as an Editor and co-ordinates the publication of a quarterly Section newsletter.

Program Co-ordinator

Co-ordinates the topics and guest speakers for the Section's program meetings.

CLE Liaison

Works with the Section Executive to identify topics and develop full or half-day programs with the CLE Main Committee and advises the Section of relevant upcoming OBA CLE programs through announcements at Section meetings and/or write-ups in Section newsletters.

Advocacy & Government Relations Liaison

Receives new legislation appropriate to the Section, co-ordinates the development of a submission to the government, and, liaises with the Advocacy and Government Relations Committee.

It is vital that all government relations and/or legislative initiatives or responses contemplated by your Section are communicated to the Director of Advocacy, Government Relations and Communications and the Director of Sections as soon as the possibility arises. It may be that other Sections or Committees are also interested or affected by the same issue or that contact has already been initiated at some other level.

Regional Representative

Organizes programs of interest to regional members. Ensures that regional interests are considered and addressed in submissions that the Section makes.

Member-at-Large

Assists in the operating of the Section, and programming of meetings and assumes specific projects as assigned by the Chair.


NOTE:

  1. There is no position for Treasurer - the OBA is responsible for all financial arrangements such as signing contracts, paying invoices, developing budgets.
  2. Other special committee positions may be created that are relevant to the Section.
